Shawndouglas McDevitt

Shawndouglas “Chanito” McDevitt, 29, of St. Johns, Arizona passed away, Sunday, February 5, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born October 31, 1993 in Springerville, Arizona the son of Amanda Nellie Jaramillo and Shawn Edward McDevitt.

Shawn grew up in St. Johns, where he loved to play basketball and baseball and was really good at it; making the all-star team every year. He loved to go fishing with his Grandpa Niche and would enter fishing tournaments and place first in almost all of them.

Shawn may have had a troubled life but he had a heart of gold and would help anyone no matter what they needed and never met a stranger. He loved his mama bear, Mandi adored his beautiful grandma, Gladys and always made sure they knew how grateful he was for them. He was always a jokester and could talk on the phone for hours. He cared very much for his dog, Chico; always making sure he had what he needed even if Shawn wasn’t around. He loved his girlfriend through thick and thin and was an incredible “daddy” to Nevaeh making sure she knew she was loved and always making sure she was doing well in school and always trying to convince her to play sports. Shawn will be missed by family and many friends. 

Shawn is survived by his parents, Mandi Jaramillo (Rudy Moreno) and Shawn McDevitt (Tennille Ulibarri), sisters, Danialle Jaramillo-McDevitt, Baylee Jaramillo (Joshua Ridgley), Karlee Jaramillo, brothers, Alex Jaramillo, Bryton McDevitt, Caiden McDevitt, niece, Livee Marie, grandmothers, Gladys Jaramillo, Kay McDevitt, life partner, Chyrelle Lee, step-daughter, Naveah Pinela, bonus siblings, Stephen and Tricia Moreno, Rachel Moreno, Michael Camarillo, Marcelo Moreno, his pride and joy, Chico the pup and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that were more like family. 

Shawn was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Niche Jaramillo, Sr., Edward McDevitt, uncle, Niche Jaramillo, Jr., aunt, Janet Jaramillo and best friends, Toriano Carbajal and Caleb Mata.

A visitation will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns, followed by Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at Barth Hall.
