Ruth "Nita" Carnita Brandner

January 21, 1930 — October 29, 2021

“Nita” Ruth Carnita Adams Brandner, 91, of New Albany, Ohio and Eagar, Arizona, went to her eternal home Friday, October 29, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born to Vernon S. Adams and Annie Illa Grimes on January 21, 1930 in Old Hickory, Tennessee and grew up in the area of Lebanon, Tennessee.

A homemaker, retired teacher and advocate of Christian education, she graduated college at David Libscomb University in 3 years, earned her teaching certificate and began teaching in Tennessee public schools in 1950. On a mission trip to England in 1955 she met and married her husband, Robert T. Brandner, Sr., in August 1956 and taught at Iboraki Christian College in Japan while stationed at Shiroi Air Force Base. All during their Air Force travels they made many friends they would keep throughout their lives. After several transfers they wound up in Cincinnati, Ohio and ultimately moved to New Albany, Ohio after their 20 year retirement from the Air Force.

“Nita” was a wife and mother first, so when the kids came along she retired from teaching to raise a family. After the children were almost grown, she went back to school to update her old Tennessee teaching certificate to an Ohio teaching certificate and taught as a substitute in public schools; ultimately gravitating to teaching at the Central Ohio Christian School based at the Northland Church of Christ in Columbus. She touched many lives in her 40 plus year career in education.

“Nita” was preceded in death by her husband, Robert T. Brandner, Sr., parents and many dear friends from all over.

She is survived by her loving children, Robert Theodore Brander, Jr., Pataskala, Ohio; Ann Theresa (Victor) Rivard, Eagar, Arizona; grandchildren, Brianna (Nathan), Dawn, and Justin (Joni) Rivard and family.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of family sometime in late April or early May of 2022, followed by a private interment at Pioneer Cemetery in Westerville, Ohio. Arrangements will be handled by Moreland Funeral Home.

Friends, if they wish, may contribute to the Benevolent Fund at Northeast Church of Christ or Central Ohio Christian Schools.
