Ruby Carrol Laney

Ruby Carrol Derrick Laney, 90, passed away, Friday, October 24, 2025 in Santa Clara, New Mexico. She was born September 4, 1935 in Lemitar, New Mexico, the daughter of James Henry Derrick and Ora Armstrong.

Ruby married William Alvin Laney on June 8, 1951 at the Frisco Store in Reserve, New Mexico. She was the proud mother of four boys, Russell, Dale, Jerry and Kit and Nana to grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Ruby worked various jobs throughout her life and contributed significantly to documenting the history of Luna. There was no where she loved more than the ranch she and Alvin called home. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and making music.

She is survived by her children, Russell (Lillian) Laney, Luna; Jerry (Joyce) Laney, Luna, New Mexico, Kit Laney, Pecos, New Mexico; brother, Bill Derrick, sister, June Barrett, 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John, Andrew, Ralph, Chris, sister, May, husband, Alvin and son, Dale.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Luna Cemetery, Luna, New Mexico.
