Mesa

Patricia Louise Sholley, passed away, Saturday, August 16, 2025 in Mesa, Arizona. She was born April 28, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Sylvester Andrew Martin and Natalie Evelyn Staszewski. Pat was married to her husband, Raymond for 51+ years before his passing last year. After Ray’s passing, she moved to Mesa to be near her one and only son, Matthew, his wife, Jennie and their beautiful granddaughter, Victoria.

Ray & Pat married October 28, 1972 in Tucson at Catalina United Methodist Church. They later relocated to Round Valley when Ray transferred to the TEP Power Plant near Springerville and attended the Community Presbyterian Church in Springerville, Arizona and then Alpine, Arizona. In late 1974 they welcomed their one and only son, Matthew “Matt”. Matt married Jennie Hunt (his high school sweetheart). They were married for 10 years before being blessed with their beautiful daughter, Victoria “Tori”.

She expressed her creativity through painting, pottery, wood crafts, stitching, scrapbooking and paper crafts; each reflecting her love for making beautiful things by hand. She also enjoyed collecting dolls, porcelain figurines, purses and other treasures. She especially loved decorating their log home for the holidays, with Halloween and Christmas being her favorites.

Pat’s greatest joy was her family, friends and animals. Her life was filled with the companionship of cats and dogs; all of whom she lovingly cared for. She cherished her lifelong friendships, especially those from her childhood in Chicago as well as the many dear friends she made throughout her life.

Leaving behind their home, belongings and animals when moving into assisted living was especially difficult for Pat and Ray. They were deeply grateful to those who helped with the transition; selling their home of 40 years, handling their belongings and finding homes for their cats.

Throughout her life, Pat worked many jobs from the Sears Tower in Chicago to Elk Horn Ranch in Wyoming and Arizona, to Kmart, American Airlines, Tolson Elementary in Tucson, Safeway, Bank One and the Blue Goose Boutique in Round Valley. She retired from the Round Valley Community Center where she loved serving her community.

Pat was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother. Though she missed her beloved Ray deeply this past year, her memory will live on through her son, Matthew Martin (Jennie) Sholley and granddaughter, Victoria Marie Sholley.

Above all, Pat loved her family, friends and pets. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. May she rest in peace, free from pain, reunited with her Heavenly Father and all who preceded her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
