Matias "Matt" Montoya

Matias “Matt” Montoya, 87, passed away, Friday, December 29, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona. He was born August 15, 1936 in St. Johns, Arizona, the son of Gabriel Montoya and Anita Lopez.

In the 87 years that Matt lived he was so many things to so many people. He was a husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Matt truly had a heart of gold; always looking out for others, lending a listening ear or arms for a hug. He never passed a child without a hello or reaching into his pocket to give them a dollar or some change.

Matt will be remembered as a rancher and entrepreneur, but his greatest achievement was the love of his family.

Matt is survived by his spouse, Betty M. Montoya, daughters, Sandra (Perry) Johnson, St. Johns; Cheryl (R.D.) Stradling, St. Johns; 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gabe Montoya.

Rosary will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, St. Johns, followed by a memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow the services at the St. Johns Catholic Cemetery.
