Marcia Greenwood Heap

January 14, 1948 — February 27, 2023

Marcia Greenwood Heap, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in St. Johns Arizona, Monday, February 27, 2023.

Marcia was born January 14, 1948, in Springerville, Arizona, the daughter of Rolf Young and Lucille Tyler Greenwood. She was the third of seven children; sisters, Sue Ann Slade, Janet Nikolaus, Lori Eagar, Rita Buhler and brothers, Bill Greenwood and Earl Greenwood. She spent her youth with family, many cousins, other relatives and friends nearby. She was raised with a love for family and enjoyed attending all the family reunions she could.

After graduating high school at Round Valley High, she attended college at Brigham Young University, Northern Arizona University and Eastern Arizona College. She married Brian Heap on July 17, 1970. They lived in St. Johns most of their married life where they raised their 7 children.

Marcia was the proud mother of Klint (Amber) Heap, St. Johns; Scott (Mary) Heap, Prescott Valley; Ben (Kathryn) Heap, Flagstaff; Linn (Janelle) Heap, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Jennifer (James) Hammond, Alpine, Brock (L’Erin) Heap, Snowflake; and Barry Heap, St. Johns; 30 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Marcia worked several jobs over her lifetime, including working for the Forest Service, Apache County and others. Her final working years were spent working as a Special Education Aide for St. Johns School District. She adored the kids she worked with there. Marcia was also a wonderful homemaker, quilter and enjoyed crocheting and other hand work.

Marcia loved the outdoors. She spent many days each summer and fall camping and fishing with her family. She loved all of God’s creations and enjoyed sharing them with her family. She had a great faith and love of God and was often reading her scriptures.

Marcia served in many stake and ward organizations for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life. She gave way more than she ever received and usually more than she had to give. She loved serving others, often taking meals to those in need, visiting and cheering up others that needed cheering up. She always had a smile on her face and her attitude was contagious. She spent her life serving her children and those around her.

In her final years, she was greatly limited in her physical abilities. As she adapted to her new normal, she found a great love of Hallmark Movies. She loved receiving visits from friends and family and still tried to send you out the door with a treat, produce or other goods if she had something on hand to share. In these times, Marcia was often on the receiving end of many kind services from friends, family and neighbors. Her kids will be forever grateful to those who reached out to her in love.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, St. Johns Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
