Lewis Wayne Peters, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 23, 2026 at his home in Eagar, Arizona. He was born November 19, 1944 in Safford, Arizona, the son of Johny Andrew Peters and Vivian Brown.

Wayne grew up in Luna, New Mexico until he was a young teenager. The family then moved to Eagar where he spent the remainder of his life. He married Cathy Gillespie on February 25, 1966 for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

Wayne drove truck all of his life, driving for various companies; Southwest, Charles Holliday and SunState. The longest and probably the one he loved the most was driving for John Holliday at Alpine Trucking. He enjoyed hunting mountain lions and bears with his mules and hound dogs. He spent most of his retired days helping his nephew, Brady at Strayhorse, hunting and cowboying; something he really enjoyed.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Cathy Gillespie Peters, Eagar; sons, Shawn (Jocelyn) Peters, Eagar; Trent (Sheila) Peters, Apache Junction; daughters, Tonya Peters, Eagar; Tara (Ronnie) Gibbons, Eagar; brothers, Keith Peters, Bobby Peters, 19 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Kenyon Peters, daughter-in-law, Tamara Peters, brothers, Buster, Roland, Loney and sisters, Rosa Lee, Nona, Lily and Arlene.

A funeral service will be held Friday, October 2, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Amity building, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
