John "Bob" Robert Derrick

John Robert Derrick, 75, passed away, Tuesday, September 5, 2023 in Chandler, Arizona. He was the 3rd of 6 children born to John Franklin Derrick and Grace Laney, February 24, 1948 in Lemitar, New Mexico. 

Robert’s family moved back to Luna, New Mexico when he was a baby. There he attended Luna Elementary School graduating in 1966 from Reserve High School. Pamela Pearce became his wife on September 13, 1967 in Mesa, Arizona. 

Robert, commonly known as “Bob” was a true entrepreneur at heart and self-taught in many skills. He grew up in the log woods. His father and uncles operated a sawmill in Luna where he became proficient in logging, driving trucks, milling and firefighting. 

Once married Robert and Pam furthered their income in real estate in the Phoenix area where he also became excellent in drywall work. 

Throughout his life Robert enjoyed operating, buying and selling heavy equipment. He manufactured dump trucks, drilled wells, auctioneered at his own sales, operated a soda blasting business, built rest areas, roads, homes and a family.

His children, Rebecca Lynn, Renae, Bonnie Sue and Shawn Robert were sources of great joy in his early family life. Followed by 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren his joy grew seeing them and helping them overcome challenges. Teaching them to have fun and be proficient while working was a priority. His teasing spirit and true whit have certainly been passed on to them.

Health challenges became an aggravation in later years as he always loved making deals and being able to physically do the work. The driving force that led him throughout his life was graciously allowed in death. He lived life his way, passing after a stroke in his sleep. 

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela, his 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and sister, Ann Hooser. 

A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. (NM time) at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Luna, New Mexico with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the services at the Luna, New Mexico Cemetery.
