Jerry Raymond Townsend

October 9, 1948 — March 21, 2024

St. Johns

Jerry Raymond Townsend, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully, Thursday, March 21, 2024 in St. Johns, Arizona.

Jerry is survived by his beloved spouse of 51 years, Judy Lynn Townsend, who was his partner in every sense of the word; sharing in adventures, dreams and the everyday moments that weave the fabric of a shared life. His legacy continues through his children, son, Jamie Townsend, daughter, Jessica Ruiz and adored grandsons, Xavier and Diego Ruiz.

Known for his booming voice, insatiable curiosity, kind spirit, hardworking nature and playful goofiness, Jerry brightened the lives of many. His adventurous soul was reflected in everything he did; from his careful selection of eclectic art to his skillful rubbish salvaging, all while maintaining a deep appreciation for the value of things others might overlook. Jerry was a man of diverse passions and endearing qualities. Jerry found joy in swimming, fishing, woodworking, gardening, hiking, animals, music, Jeeps, chess, boxing and playing the blues on the piano.

Jerry retired from the City of Flagstaff after 30 years of service in the water department. He loved the city, its residents and could recite every street name. He also gave back to his community by providing both emergency and long term care to disabled foster children for over 15 years.

As we remember Grandpa Jerry we celebrate a life lived fully and with purpose. His influence will continue to be felt through the lives of those he touched and his memory will be cherished in the stories shared, the laughter remembered and the love that remains. Jerry’s passing leaves a huge void in our hearts, but his spirit and the lessons he taught us will forever guide our way.
