James "Jim" Harry Maddock, Jr.

December 28, 1957 — February 19, 2018

Jim Maddock, Jr., husband, father and grandfather, passed away, Monday, February 19, 2018 in Concho. He was a quiet man whose passion for his family was apparent to all who were blessed to know him. Jim was born December 28, 1957 in Ceveland, Ohio the son of James Harry Maddock, Sr. and Marie Elena Battaglia Maddock.

His family and friends knew him for the way that he would quietly reach out to care for and take care of others, whether bringing his 18-wheeler to help folks move on his day off to cutting down trees where needed to finding chores for little ones to accomplish in their quest to save money for family gifts...teaching them hard work, independence and love. He always made sure his children were taken care of, never sharing adult problems, but making sure his family had everything they needed.

He will be remembered for his passion for cooking, always celebrating special occasions for his loved ones with special meals and desserts and the treat of chocolate milk to soften early mornings when the grandkids spent the night.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors as he owned his own trucking company, was an avid pilot and plane aficionado, who also loved to boat and teach his grandkids to fish. Jim was proud of his Italian heritage which was particularly apparent in his favorite cooking dishes. He was also an Army veteran and known for his memorable fashion style which consisted of Hanes white T-shirts, white tennis shoes, cut-off jean shorts and Hawaiian shirts for his Sunday best.

His grandchildren reveled in his “great hugs,” while his children reminisced about their truck trips with Dad and the opportunity to ride in the big bunk of his truck. They marveled that he never woke up angry...even if they gave him a fine reason to do so. He remained forgiving throughout his life, convinced that once a problem was dealt with, it was over and passed.

Jim was never shy about sharing his political views with others, whether or not they cared to hear them and was particularly fond of his shepherd dogs. He was known for his extreme stubbornness from his start to his finish. During difficult times, he was willing to raise his grandkids and take in troubled family who needed a helping hand to get back on their feet, always stating “I’ve made my share of mistakes.”

His personal relationship with our Lord, developed over his life and particularly flourished in the last few years...and it is that passion for our Lord that gives his family and loved ones peace of mind in knowing that he is with our Lord for all eternity.

Jim is survived by his wife, Susan Maddock, Concho; daughters, Sharyl Denny, San Antonio, Texas; Jamie Davidson, Oregon; mother, Ms. Pat Massey, brothers, Tim and Mike, sisters, Carol, Tina and Mary and 7 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Cathy.
