Horace Don Swapp

Horace Don Swapp finished the course of his life, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 after an exhausting battle with cancer.

Born on February 17, 1939 in Luna, New Mexico, he would spend his early life with his parents, Don Melvin Swapp and Anna Fay Thompson and his five siblings, sister, Inez Swapp Hulsey and brothers, Melburn J., Kenneth Roy, Nathan Ezra and Ronald Van Swapp.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Melburn and Nathan.

Though quiet and unassuming, Horace had an endearing personality and was loved dearly by his wife of 64 years, Royene Hamblin and his three sons, Donald Craig, Kent M. and Darrell Lynn Swapp. Horace and Royene have 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who affectionately called him "Pop Swapp". They have lived in Eagar, Arizona nearly all their adult lives.

During his career in the trucking industry, he logged well over 3,000,000 miles carrying logs and lumber for Southwest Forest Industries and then driving his own trucks for HR Trucking (Swapp Trucking). He did his own mechanical work and would enjoy "tinkering" in his shop. He built, from scratch a small Kenworth flatbed truck and restored other trucks he would later display in truck shows.

Horace raised a beautiful vegetable garden and orchard, canned and cooked and loved little children. Some of the neighborhood children made daily stops to see Horace and Royene. They were interested in what Horace was building and Horace and Royene took an interest in what they were doing in their lives. 

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Eagar Stake Center, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
