George Dennis Willis, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday, July 12, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 16, 1942 in Wallace, Idaho and lived a life defined by hard work, integrity and love for his family and friends.

George worked as a hard-rock miner and mining contractor, spending nearly five decades working in the mining industry throughout the United States, Mexico and Venezuela. He built more than a successful career; he earned a reputation for honesty, determination and workmanship. There wasn't a challenge he wouldn't face and those who worked alongside him knew he could always be counted on for his practical wisdom and willingness to help wherever he could.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His greatest pride wasn't found in the work he accomplished but in the family he loved so deeply. Whether teaching life lessons through hard work, sharing stories around the table, spending time at his beloved cabin in the Gunnison, Colorado mountains or simply enjoying time with those he loved, he left a lasting mark on every life he touched. 

George believed that a man's word meant something, that family came first and that the best lessons were taught by example. Those values live on through his children, grandchildren and everyone fortunate enough to know him.

George is survived by his wife of 49 years Terry, daughter, Laura Devore, Edgar, Nebraska; sons, Denny R. (Amanda) Willis, Mammoth; Ryan J. (Kelley) Willis, Gunnison, Colorado; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, extended family and many lifelong friends. 

He was preceded in death by his son, Charles Willis, parents, Tom Paul Willis and Leaetta Juanita Applegate Willis, brothers, Ray, Chuck, Tommy and sister, Mary. 

Though his hands have been laid to rest, the legacy they built will endure for generations. His strength, kindness, faith and love will never be forgotten. The family finds comfort knowing he has gone home to be with the Lord, where pain has ended, his work is complete and everlasting peace.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that you honor George's memory by spending time with those you love, lending a helping hand to someone in need and living with the same honesty and strength that he demonstrated every day of his life. He will be deeply missed, forever loved and always remembered.
