Gene William Condie, 59, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at his home in Springerville, Arizona, after a 2-year battle with stage 4 prostate cancer. He was born December 18, 1966 in Provo, Utah, the son of William Kay Condie and Gayle DeAnn Smith.
Gene grew up in Soda Springs, Idaho where he made good friends, competed in track, cross country, basketball and enjoyed skiing and hunting. He went to Ricks College and Idaho State University. While attending Ricks he enjoyed working at Granite Creek Ranch where he built cabins and was the original trail guide for horse rides. He also worked in Jackson Hole, Wyoming at the Fudge Pop and was a security guard. After graduating from college, Gene worked for 5 years as a teacher in Shonto, Arizona where he enjoyed teaching biology, chemistry, anatomy and coaching track. He loved hiking and seeing the beauty of the ruins and nature in the area. In 2003 Gene married Heather Partridge who he met in Flagstaff while doing research for his master’s degree from University of Arizona which he completed. They bonded over their mutual love of the Navajo people and met playing foosball at the institute there.
Shortly after their first daughter, Rachel was born in 2004, Gene and Heather moved to Taylor, Arizona where Gene taught at Show Low Junior High. Later in 2006 after Rebecca was born, Gene got a job teaching at the Apache County Department of Corrections and moved his family to Springerville, Arizona where Renee, Nathan and Daniel were born and raised. Eight and a half years ago Gene started working as a probation officer and was careful about maintaining his client’s privacy and helping them the best that he could.
Gene had a great love of nature and wildlife. He loved filming elk, deer, turkeys or any other wildlife he could find. He loved going on hikes all day and could out-hike anyone. He loved taking his family and anyone he knew on hikes and sharing his photography and videos. His work can be found on his YouTube channel, Gene’s Wilderness Videos. He loved taking the kids skiing, camping, horseback riding, fishing and having nerf wars in the forest with prizes. He is known for his sense of humor.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he spent many years teaching Sunday School. He really enjoyed teaching primary in his last calling at church. He had a way of keeping everyone’s attention by sharing stories and making mistakes on purpose to see if people were paying attention. He loved sharing stories of his mission in El Paso, Texas where he touched the lives of many people. He had so many baptisms they assigned another set of missionaries to help him.
Gene leaves behind his father, William Kay Condie, wife, Heather Condie, children, Rachel, Rebecca (Damon) Galloway, Renee, Nathan and Daniel, his brother, Clint (Stacy) Condie and his nieces and nephews, Emily, William, Marianne, Genevieve, Austin and Ethan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gayle Condie, his brother, Scott Condie, his grandparents, Wendell and Wavel Smith and Idonna and William Condie, his uncle, Terry Condie and cousin, Kami Cox.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Springerville building, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow the services at the Eagar Cemetery.
