Gary Dean Hegg, 81, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2025 in his beloved Pie Town, New Mexico. He was born in Youngstown, Ohio on October 28, 1943, the son of Edward A. Hegg and Blanche G. Huser Hegg. Their home was across the road from a Boy Scout ranch and Gary said it was the best childhood imaginable.
Gary was an outdoorsman. He moved to Anchorage in 1970 where he lived his dream of hunting and fishing and also where he met his soon-to-be wife, Carol. The one thing he wanted to do before leaving Alaska was pan for gold, so he bought a dredge and he and Carol spent a summer panning for gold near Fairbanks. He almost found enough gold to pay for the dredge.
Gary and Carol moved to Pie Town in 1994. They thought it was truly a little slice of heaven. After completion of their off-the-grid straw bale home, Gary started his own solar business; Total Light and Power. He loved the business and the people who became his customers and friends.
Gary will be remembered as a generous person, always ready to lend a hand and fun to be around. Besides Carol, he is survived by his step-daughter, Nichole Forrest, Houston, Texas.
