Doris Marlene Gilliam Rogers

October 16, 1937 — June 8, 2018

Doris Marlene Gilliam Rogers, 80, was born October 16, 1937 to Lonnie Gilliam and Ruby Geneva Stover Gilliam in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She joined older brothers, Ray, Bobby and Ralph. In June 1938 the family moved to Arizona, living for a while in Phoenix and eventually moving to the Alpine area and finally settling in Nutrioso. The family was completed with the birth of youngest brother, Dennis.

Growing up in Nutrioso was a good life for Doris and her brothers. She recalled fondly the bonfires, taffy pulls, dances and good clean fun had by all. It was there she was introduced to Bobby Rogers and on February 9, 1953 Bob and Doris were married in Reserve, New Mexico.

They made their home in Nutrioso until December 1964 when they purchased Jim’s Garage in Springerville, which they owned and operated together and later with Larry and Janet Rogers and Lynn and Laura Rogers. Doris kept books for the business until they closed in 2004 when they decided it was time to retire.

Doris was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She was an excellent cook, seamstress and homemaker. She enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with her family and was an excellent markswoman. She was creative, talented, artistic, smart and witty.

Throughout her life, Doris made friends wherever she went and she treasured those friendships. In 1998 Doris, Bob and Ronnie became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Bob and Doris were sealed for time and eternity on February 5, 2000; a joyful day for her family.

Doris is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bob Rogers, Springerville; daughters, Dorlene Allred, Eagar; Nola (Larry) Porter, Eagar; sons, Lynn (Laura) Rogers, Pima; Ronnie (Kaylinn) Rogers, Springerville; brother, Dennis Gilliam, Springerville; 14 grandchildren: Tanya Tapia, Jay Rogers, Sarah Campagna, Jenna Farnes, Tad Allred, Valerie Simpson, Maggie Lewis, Keith Rogers, Duane Porter, Timothy Rogers, Kresta Rogers, Kody Hall, Mikey Hall, Travis Armijo, and 32 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Ray, Bobby and Ralph, son-in-law, Don Allred and granddaughter, Damara Allred.
