Dora Jean Young Greer

August 23, 1934 — December 12, 2023

Dora Jean Young Greer was born August 23, 1934 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Arthur Leroy Young and Gwen Celia Rasmason. She passed away, Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Burbank, Washington at age 89.

She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served a mission for the church as a result of a remarkable dream in which she saw the Savior and He said, “I’d rather you show your love by your service!” She served in the California mission which included Tucson, Arizona.

Music was a love. Dora played the guitar. At church she sang and played the piano and organ.

She met an eligible bachelor, Warren Maynard Greer, but he was smoking. She wouldn’t date him until he “quit the weed” and started going to church. She married Warren on 1 June 1959.  They had 7 children together, Sarah May, Mary Ann, Patricia Gwen, Lacy Roy, Warren Young, Ellen Lou and Garlande Sue.

Bright, Dora skipped 7th grade and graduated from high school at age 16. She loved learning and earned many degrees: BS, MS and Doctorate in Education, MS in Counseling and a law degree.  (The last three degrees she earned while raising children.) She taught high school in Williams, Arizona, St. Johns, Arizona and Oakdale, California, junior high in Chinle, Arizona and English at the University of Arizona. She was a principal in Burlington, Wyoming and practiced law in Tucson, Arizona until she retired.

She loved spending time with family, especially attending family events. She loved traveling, walking, working on family history (she volunteered at the Family History Center) and serving ancestors in the temple.

Warren died in 2002. Dora was lonely after her children moved away. As she developed Alzheimers her daughter, Mary invited Dora to live with her in Richland, Washington. She was known throughout Richland as the amazing lady who would wave at everyone as she pushed her walker throughout the city. Dora saw the “sweetheart” or “good Saint” in each person and prayed daily to be a good Saint. She remained steadfast to her faith in Christ and Heavenly Father and to their church. To the end of her life she encouraged others to come to Christ.

Dora was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Maynard Greer, daughter, Sarah May Wild, parents, Arthur Leroy Young and Gwen Rasmason Young, sister, Celia Mary Young and brothers, Walton Lloyd and Arthur Rasmason Young.

Dora is survived by her daughters, Mary (Steve) Greer-Short, Patricia (Chris) Day, Ellen (Rik) Stoddard, Garlande Greer, sons, Roy Greer, Warren Y. Greer, brother, Gerald (Dione) Young, 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
