Obituary

Charles Luke Freeland, 70, lovingly known as “Luke”, Dad, Grandpa, Pa Man, and Uncle Luke, passed away peacefully at his home, Thursday, August 27, 2026 in Eagar, Arizona at the age of 70.

As an Eagar resident since 1980, Luke built a life filled with love, laughter, curiosity and a sense of wonder that never faded.

He was born on June 2, 1956 in Florence, Arizona. He spent his early years living in many places throughout the United States and its territories; (US Virgin Islands). His family later settled in Tucson, Arizona where he and his brother made childhood memories together and with their many cousins whom he remained close to his whole life.

Luke graduated from Amphi High School, class of 1974. He was a natural athlete and later a skilled ironworker. He traveled throughout the country building major structures until 1983 when he would meet the love of his life. He gave up life on the road to marry Lois and to begin the next chapter of his life devoted to family.

Luke was magnetic; an unforgettable story teller, a voracious reader, a science enthusiast, a lover of history and a man who lit up every room he entered. Through his actions, kindness and strength he made a profound and lasting impact not only on his family but on the lives of countless others. He served as a true role model for so many throughout his journey on this earth.

As a devoted father and the ultimate patriarch, he was a steady, fiercely protective, and unwavering anchor for his wife, children and grandchildren. He believed family was everything and brought fatherly love to his treasured nieces and nephews as well. Luke would often beautifully remark that his children and grandchildren were his immortality; he will live on through Mary Alexandrea, Madison Lilly, Chloe Mae, Silas Anthony, Charles Logan and Henry Luke.

Luke is now reunited with his parents, Charles Lee Freeland and Etta Mae Dickerson Freeland, who are presumably verifying his lifelong claim of being “the only normal one in his this family.” He will be deeply missed and loved forever.

Luke is survived by his wife, Lois Lavonne Stevens Freeland, Eagar; son, Charles Luke Freeland, II, Eagar; daughters, Iris Amanda (Larry) Lamb, Kearny; Etta Alexandrea (Lucas) Malone, Glendale; Lillian LaVette (Grant) Wilhelm, Gilbert; brother, John Michael (Rhonda) Freeland and 6 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mrs. Lois Freeland, 936 S Burk Street, Eagar, Arizona 85925.
