Anthony Wayne Lindsey, Sr.

Anthony “Tony” Wayne Lindsey passed from this life, Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at the age of 78 in Show Low, Arizona from heart related complications. He was surrounded by his family and passed peacefully. The family wishes to express gratitude to Summit Emergency and ICU staff for the competent loving care they provided; also a heartfelt appreciation for Dr. Adam Patterson; as he upholds the finest traditions of the medical profession represented by his professional and dignified manner in treating Tony.

Tony was born on February 13, 1945 in Winchester, Tennessee to Pleasant James Lindsey, Jr. and Mollie Virginia Floyd. He was primarily raised in Marana, Arizona where his parents worked for the Marana School District and where James also ran the Lindsey Garage with the help of his boys. Tony became an excellent mechanic and welder.

Tony attended a one room school house with his sister, Janice in Red Rock, Arizona and then Marana Schools through graduation. He excelled in academics and athletics and participated in FFA. Tony was a standout in football, basketball and baseball eventually earning a full ride scholarship to Arizona State College (NAU) where he played football for Max Spilsbury as a quarterback, kicker and punter. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education specializing in physical and vocational education.

He coached and taught school at Stuart Indian School in Nevada, Fort Thomas, Duncan and St. Johns in Arizona and Ola High School in Arkansas. He married Yolanda Robles on March 16, 1963 and they had 6 children. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Tony is survived by his ex-wife, Yolanda Robles Lindsey, Tucson; Tony (Wendy) Lindsey, Jr., St Johns; Travis (Sherri) Lindsey, Lehi; Taw (Jeannie) Lindsey, Metlakatla, Alaska; Thomas (Victoria) Lindsey, Marana; Alma Lindsey, Surprise; siblings, Janice Conner, St Johns; Gwen (Roger) Sherwood, St Johns; Jim (Maggie) Lindsey, Phoenix; Julia Harn, Wickenberg; Sheila Hay, Marana; Greg (Lisa) Lindsey, Marana; Darrell (Eileen) Lindsey, St Johns; Yvette (Jeff)  Greer, St Johns; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, James and Virginia Lindsey, brother, Philip Lindsey, son, Abraham Juarez Lindsey and grandson, Everett James Lindsey.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 13555 N Lon Adams Rd in Marana, Arizona 85653. A luncheon will be provided following the service. Flowers may be delivered on this day to the chapel.
