Alfred Stock

April 8, 1928 — August 2, 2018

Alfred “Al” Stock, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018, in St. Johns. Alfred was born in Carrizo, Arizona on April 8, 1928 to Asa Earl Stock and Katie Petersen. Alfred was the sixth out of nine children, Pearl Wakefield, Earl, Delbert, Rupert, Donald, Parley, Genevie Shipley, and Frank. Most of his childhood was enjoyed living in Carrizo and Show Low.

Alfred attended high school in Snowflake and then joined the Air Force towards the end of World War II. On October 17, 1949 he married Barbara Ann Waite, from St. Johns. They celebrated 65 wonderful years of marriage just prior to Barbara’s passing away in 2014 and are once again reunited. They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple on March 30, 1954 as eternal companions and family. Soon after their marriage Alfred started working as a meat cutter and made that his career. While living in Show Low the couple had two sons. Alfred’s job took them to Mesa and then Douglas where four more sons joined the family. The family then moved to Safford where their family enjoyed many fond memories and they began to expand their family with grandchildren. In 1972 he was transferred back to Mesa where they lived until he retired in 1989. At this time they moved back to mom’s home town of St. Johns and enjoyed being back in the White Mountains of their youth.

Alfred coached most of his sons in little league baseball. He loved sports, playing football in high school and later he played on his Elders Quorum basketball team in Douglas. He loved bowling and played league bowling most of his life. He was the pitcher for his ward softball team, even playing with some of his sons, until he was 55. After retiring he started gardening and grew fruits and vegetables for anyone who wanted them.

Alfred was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in scouting for over 36 years. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and together with his wife served 2 Stake missions in the Concho Branch of the Church where they met and loved many wonderful people. He loved missionary work and helped in bringing over 80 people into the church. They loved being with and feeding the full time missionaries who served in St. Johns. Most of all he loved his wife and family with an unconditional love and saw all for who they were, not for what they had done.

He is survived by his sons, David (Leah) Safford; Raymond (Mary) South Jordan, Utah; Ricky (Vicki) Tucson; Ron (Shelley) West Jordan, Utah; daughter-in-law, Jacque Stock, Safford; 18 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Alfred was preceded in death by his eternal companion Barbara, his sons, Alfred Dan and Steven L. and great-grandson, Steven Andrew Stock as well as his parents and all of his brothers and sisters.

Alfred will be missed and loved forever.
